Born in Faro, 1982, Desidério Lázaro began playing flute at the age of 6, moving on to clarinet four years later. He attended classes at the Faro and Setúbal Conservatories, where he studied under Paulo Gaspar, and played with several ensembles such as the Orquestra Clássica Juvenil do Algarve, Orquestra de Metais do Algarve, Camerata Musical do Barreiro.
In 2002, he began studying jazz and took up the saxophone at the Hot Clube de Portugal Jazz School with teachers Paulo Gaspar and Pedro Moreira. Two years later Desidério moved to Amsterdam where he graduated in the Conservatorium von Amsterdam Jazz BA and where he studied under Ferdinand Povel, Jasper Blom and Dick Oatts.
In 2010 he recorded his first record in a trio “Rotina impermanente” (JACC Records) and in September 2012 his second record “Samsara” ( Sintoma Records, an independent label which Desidério co-owns) was reviewed as one of the best records that year by João Almeida, Antena 2. In 2013, his third record “Cérebro: Estado Zero” (Sintoma Records) hit the stores as he graduated the Masters in Jazz Performance at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.
Two years later, Desidério presents his latest work as a composer “Subtractive Colors”. Performing in several stages and festivals as a sideman and leader he is also a member of the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and the Universidade Lusíada staff.
